Education

Bright Futures Cambodia believes education is the tool needed to end the cycle of poverty in underprivileged families and communities. This is why we provide elementary and middle school education for local children, sponsorship and housing for high school students, and tuition and housing for college students.

Education in Cambodia

The education system in Cambodia functions differently from education in the United States. Students must pass government exams to advance to the next grade level at the end of every year. And while access to public education is limited for students in many of the areas we operate in, government schools only offer half-day classes regardless. So, to fill knowledge gaps from shortened school days, many Khmer teachers offer supplementary classes at a cost, something few students can afford but that also exists as an unspoken requirement to pass the end-of-year exams. BFC thus ensures that all of the students we serve receive a full education, providing free supplementary classes for all students and complete schooling for students who live too far to attend government schools in Mouk Hurn village. We also believe in providing a full K-college educational experience to students, placing them in jobs that will allow them to provide for themselves and their families.

  • New Hope School

New Hope School was BFC’s first school and is located in Sisiphon. This school provides local children with an elementary and middle school education that sets them up for further educational success. Students are also taught the fundamentals of the Christian faith.

  • Mouk Hurn School

The Mouk Hurn School is our second elementary school located in Mouk Hourn Village. The opening of this school marked the end of a five-year gap in educational access for the children of Mouk Hurn. It is operated by many BFC alumni.

  • High School Students

BFC first began with offering one-to-one sponsorships for high school students. Our high schoolers are housed in our dormitory, and they are supported in both supplementary classes and opportunities to deepen their faith.

  • College Students

Our college students are alumni of BFC’s high school student sponsorship program. Their sponsor parents continue to support them in their collegiate education, where they are able to attend the college of their choice and train to enter various occupational fields.
